The Power of Positive Self Talk
Recently, I’ve been looking into ways to improve many aspects of my life including my mind, spirituality, and motivation. I have learned a great deal on how to do that, and it all boils down to one things; self talk.
Self talk, or auto-suggestion, is a way to get your mind into the habit of producing good and only good things. Below I’ll describe what it does and how to do it. You’ll be surprised at how simple it might be, yet so many of us ignore it. Perhaps because it seems too simple to be true? Maybe. But it is indeed simple and true!
If you think about it, all the good things and all the bad things we do start in one place; our minds. You can’t do anything good or bad without first conjuring it up in your mind.
Murderers self talk themselves into killing someone. A good and courageous person talks himself into doing good and helping others. Either way, it’s all in the mind.
What we say to ourselves in our minds, we say out of habit. We all know that we’re creatures of habit. Sure, we like change and can get accustomed to it, but all in all we’d like to just have a routine way of doing things. And that’s fine.
Just like we can form a habit of smoking or drinking, we can form a habit of doing many great things that we set our minds to.
Forming the habit of saying good things to yourself:
We tend not accomplish things because we think they are impossible. “It’s impossible for me to make a million dollars.” That’s a pretty common thing that someone might say to his or herself because the mind says that it’s too big. You say it to yourself and guess what? It won’t come true. What if you turned that way of thinking around? “I know for a fact I can make a million dollars – that’s not a big task. I have complete control over it.” You’d be surprised at the things your mind will conjure up to achieve this goal when you repeat this to yourself.
Repeat, repeat, repeat:
If you want to accomplish something, say it over and over again in your mind. It may or may not get boring after a while, but it doesn’t matter. You do it in order to form a habit in your mind and the way you things. Also, plenty of studies have shown that when you repeat something over and over again in your mind, it becomes infused in your subconscious mind so much so that you no longer think twice about accomplishing that goal; you just do it. It becomes a habit.
Write it all down:
If there’s a big or small goal you want to obtain, write it down. Write it down in one line, maybe just one sentence, and carry it around with you on a piece of paper. This is so simple yet it works wonders. Then pull it out of your pocket multiple times a day and read it a few times. Keep doing this until this positive self talk, whether it’s a quote or a phrase, becomes ingrained in your mind and you’ve formed a habit of thinking about it constantly. Consistency and repetition is the key.
If you keep doing this with anything that you set your mind to, you can literally accomplish anything. Whether you’re looking to lose weight, quit smoking, make a million dollars, get a promotion, etc., you just need to ingrain positive self talk within your mind.

Thanks for stopping by Jonathan. That’s why positive self talk is so important. It helps to shape who we are and who we want to be.
Gabe,
I am glad I found this site. I was recently having a debate with someone about this very topic. They didn’t believe what they said had so much power that could affect their results. I can personally attest that when I started speaking positively about my life positive things started to happen. I start every morning, after prayer, saying today is going to be a great day. By doing this I have went from one of the worst performers at my job to one of the best. Great post.
Thanks for stopping by Frank, and thanks for the comment. I am glad you are experiencing the power of positive self talk. It’s very valuable and can be used everyday. It is amazing how our thoughts can have such a profound effect in our lives.
